I have to admit: I am a logo junkie. Nothing excites me more than reveling in the history of logo development and the approach to designing them. I'm always looking at trends, researching on the masters (hello, Milton Glaser & Seymour Chwast!) and getting into the minutiae of why simplifying an old logo is for better or worse. Thank you in advance for your newsletter, Richard - it satisfies my creative soul!

One of my favorite logos of all time is OneFootball by DesignStudio. It's dead simple, scalable, on brand, so smart and yet so well crafted right down to the line weight, angles and balance. It's the kind of logo design I wish I created! https://www.design.studio/work/onefootball

I too love your newsletters, RIchard. I always learn something new every time I read it! Thank you!

Thank you for the opportunity.

This is a very personal case but one of my favorite logos is probably the Carrefour logo. In France, everyone knows it because it must have lulled their childhood. Going shopping with your parents, standing in the cart and looking at this logo in all its forms: signs, packaging, jackets... Thinking about knowing it and finally discovering all its secrets much later: the arrows which indicate the past on the left and the future on the right, the colors of its country of design and finally, the biggest of all, the "C" which is is revealed in negative space. I went from dreaming of buying knights to buying baby diapers but I never got tired of this logo.

Ever since i was a kid i have been challenged to accurately draw the Canadian maple leaf freehand. The story of Jacques Saint-Cyr's design being chosen as Canada's "logo" is a unique case where a committee made the right call. So many weaker designs could have been chosen. THe visual simplicity and symmetry of the mark is genius. It works at any size. It's instantly recognized as "Canada" in any corner of the world. Your burgeoning trove of logos is becoming one of history's greatest achives that will outlive all of us and tell many great stories. THanks for the opportunity to vie for a subscription.

I love the Ferrari logo, because after all these years, they've never shied from their history and commitment to excellence. I love that the type hasn't turned into a digitized robot- style, and that it features beautiful illustration and a touch of culture.

It's got to be the logo for the NS, the dutch railway company. To me this is the perfect example of a versatile, timeless logomark that just works.

I might be biased though, as a dutch designer who had Gert Dumbar as a teacher.

What a tough question but I think for me, Blue Circle Cement. True simplicity and doesn't need to do anymore than what is necessary.
