Greeley-Weld County Airport – What's the concept?
The concept behind Melanie Metz's 1982 logo for Greeley-Weld County Airport.
The Greeley-Weld County Airport opened in June 1944 and saw significant expansion in the 1960s with a new airport terminal and administration building added in 1964. Expansion continued and growth plans were laid out in the 1970s.
Throughout this period, the airport added more hangars and initiated various improvement projects, all the way into the 1980s.
In 1982 Greeley-Weld County Airport introduced a new logo, designed by Melanie Metz, to improve the overall image of the airport and better express its growing capacity and position.
The logo featured four outwardly curving arrows drawn as open outlines. Together, these formed a square structure that gave the impression of incoming and outgoing movement, similar to the logo of Glasgow Airport by Margaret Calvert.
In this configuration of arrows, the airport sought to express its strength and promote its increased activity and capacity as it continued its expansion.
