Rotation Logos
Learn about rotation in logo design.
Logos that feature a rotating or spiral component introduce a sense of motion to a static form. These typically rotate around a singular point, combining separate elements–offset or displaced at different angles–to create this momentum.
Logos that feature a rotating element have lent themselves well to businesses such as manufacturing, suggesting continual production or learning, alluding to continued growth. And more literally, industries such as shipping transport, water control and boat building.
Take, for example, Romek Marber’s logo for British boat engine manufacturer Ashby Marine, designed in 1960, and Robert Hagenhofer’s 1970 whirlpool-like logo for water pollution control company Hydroscience.
For Paul Brands logo for photography company Diateknik, the suggestion is more conceptual, touching on the notions of framing and seeing things from different points of view.
